Interactive CAD Solutions - Rapid Prototyping

Stereolithography (STL) is the creation of a models printed on a three dimensional printer. The model is created by exposing a light sensitive liquid photopolymer to a laser beam. As the photopolymer cures, a new layer is constantly being added. A typical model can be produced in hours rather than being machined from raw stocks of metal. Because the STL is generated from the three dimensional model, time is not lost detailing a paper space drawing, request for quotes, and machining time. Stereolithography, photochemical machining, laser sintering, and laminated-object manufacturing use 3D CAD data to produce models in hours. Most of these processes make parts from plastic. A model can be built from layers of liquid plastic, fused from plastic powders, or cut from partially cured polymer. The corporate rush to get products to market as fast as possible has generated demand to create prototypes from solid models as fast as possible. Rapid prototyping has been used to describe a process of creating parts as solid models which are directly interpreted and fabricated by methods exotic (like Stereolithography) and humble (like Computer Numerically Controlled, or (CNC, mill).
