Polypropylene (PP) material for pipe applications

Polypropylene (PP) material for pipe applications Based on the polymerization conditions and the incorporation of the ethylene copolymer, polypropylenes can be differentiated in PP Homopolymer (PP-H), PP Random copolymer (PP-R) and PP Block copolymer (PP-B). The property profiles of the different types of polypropylene also make them suitable for different types of application: PP-H is normally used in industrial pressure pipe systems and for soil and waste water pipes and fittings, based mainly on its good mechanical properties and excellent chemical resistance. PP-R is a well proven material in domestic pressure piping systems for hot and cold water due to its high internal pressure resistance and long lifetime at elevated temperatures. For buried sewerage and drainage applications, waste water systems and ducting pipe systems, PP-B is the obvious choice. This is mainly due to its high stiffness, high impact strength, especially at low temperatures, good long term properties and excellent chemical resistance. Based on these properties, PP-B is commonly used also for other non pressure systems, in particular for soil and waste water piping systems and for cable protection systems.

P&G tests Pringles portion pack | Package | Packaging World

P&G tests Pringles portion pack | Package | Packaging World Snack pack P&G tests Pringles portion pack Published in Packaging World Magazine, October 2001 , p. 2 Procter & Gamble is test marketing Smart Stacks, a 0.81-oz portion pack of its Pringles-brand potato crisps, in a thermoformed polypropylene cup whose bottom is shaped like the curvy snack. Printpack’s Rampart Packaging Div. (Williamsburg, VA) and Winpak Portion Packaging (Langhorne, PA) thermoform the cups, which are bright red for Pringles’ original flavor and green for a sour cream and onion variety. Cups provide barrier from oxygen ingress, helping to extend shelf life, which is conservatively estimated to be at least eight months. Lidstock is supplied by Spiralkote (Orlando, FL), a div. of Fleming Packaging. The lamination includes .0015 aluminum foil and an ethylene vinyl acetate blend as a sealant layer. The material is printed flexographically in seven colors with a varnish overcoat to protect the inks. Margaret Swallow, a media relations representative for Cincinnati-based P&G, tells Packaging World that the crisps were being test-marketed in Minneapolis for an undisclosed period that began in mid-September. Swallow says preliminary trade customer reaction is “encouraging,” but she points out that it’s premature to make any final determinations until test market results can be evaluated.

Breast implants that grow? - breast augmentation, breast implants, Marie Czenko Kuechel, polypropylene, string implants - DailyBeauty™ - A beauty blog powered by NewBeauty® Magazine Breast implants that grow? Posted Monday, May 28, 2007 by Marie Czenko Kuechel In the 1980s and ‘90s, a Texas doctor developed implants from polypropylene, a plastic substance that comes in solid and fiber form. (The implants were of the fiber variety, hence the nickname "string implants.") Despite the fact that they are not even in formal trials for FDA approval, they seem to be getting a lot of buzz. Once inserted into the breast, these implants continue to enlarge, growing indefinitely as the result of absorbing fluid from the body. The result: grossly exaggerated, huge and odd-looking breasts. Today, only saline and silicone breast implants are FDA-approved for augmentation, and women seeking enormous breasts should be warned: augment beyond what your body tissues can bear and you greatly increase your risk of complications.
